Sara Dusel is a third-year PhD student from the Department of Agricultural and Food Policy at the University of Hohenheim (Germany). Her research focusses on political and economic aspects of farm animal welfare.
Sara was particularly interested in coming to the AWP to learn more about the program’s work on animals’ preferences and motivation to access certain resources and was interested in building on this topic from an economic perspective.
Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she was able to visit the AWP for one month to learn more about the AWP’s preference and motivation studies. Some highlights from her visit included participating in an audit training at the UBC dairy farm, attending the Agassiz Fall Fair where the AWP team set up a booth, and presenting some of her previous work at a science slam!
Although Sara’s stay was short, her collaboration with the program will continue. Sara said, “since my return, I already had the opportunity to participate in several online meetings, presenting my work and also participating in a journal club. I am looking forward to staying in touch, and I am grateful that the AWP offers many opportunities to continue the exchange from remote.”
