What got you interested in the field of Animal Welfare?
I first got interested in animal emotions but quickly focused on animal welfare research. This field combines two topics I’m passionate about: understanding animals’ minds and improving their lives.
How has your research/work helped to improve animal welfare?
My work focuses on affective states, which are challenging to assess in animals. My work contributed in better understanding what dairy cattle experience when disbudded, feed-restricted, regrouped, separated from their calf and so on. This knowledge can contribute to help refine these farm procedures better taking into account animal’s’ perspective with the aim of mitigating negative emotions.
What do you hope to do moving forward?
I aim to continue my research and teach on the topic of animal welfare. My future research will also integrate ethics and sustainability perspectives.
