About

Katia is a veterinarian from Brazil with a Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine, and Doctor of Science in Agronomy. She comes from the Federal University of Technology – Parana after 12 years working in education, extension and research in the Animal Science Program. Most of her work focused on exercise physiology, nutrition, bio-morphometry and wellbeing of horses. She held various positions in the University, from Coordinator of the Education, Research and Extension Unit of Horses to International Relations Officer. Currently, she is the chief veterinary officer of a Brazilian biotech startup and is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Administration at University Canada West in Vancouver.

Her story with AWP started in 2020-2021 when she was a visiting faculty member. Now she is the AWP Research Coordinator, responsible for managing the administrative, finance and communications aspects of the Animal Welfare Program, working closely with AWP faculty to facilitate grant applications and reports for granting agencies, managing accounts and coordinating outreach events.
