Animal Welfare Program members Dr Joanna Makowska, Dr Cathy Schuppli, Lucia Améndola, Michael Brunt, Ben Lecorps, and Anna Ratuski presented current research and engaged in discussion surrounding laboratory animal welfare at the CALAS symposium May 26 to 28, 2019, here in Vancouver. The annual meeting of Canadian laboratory animal professionals also involves the Canadian Council on Animal Care, the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Medicine and the Canadian Animal Ethics Coordinators which provides a forum to exchange knowledge and stimulate dialogue surrounding the standards of laboratory animal practices and welfare in Canada.
