Research Opportunities

For UBC Students:

There are several opportunities for undergraduate students interested in research.  Review the list of courses above, as many of these offer opportunities for research such as APBI 398 Research Methods in Applied Biology and practical experiential learning such as APBI 495 Human Wildlife Conflict.

Students may also complete a directed study (APBI 497), undergraduate essay (APBI 498), or thesis (APBI 499).  Each of these courses requires a supervisor from Applied Biology, such as faculty from the Animal Welfare Program.  Often students work closely with graduate student researchers throughout the duration of their research activities.  Interested students should consult the course pages to learn more about how to apply.

We also encourage undergraduates that are interested in conducting original research to review opportunities for funding. These are highly competitive awards and we encourage interested students to reach out to a faculty member well in advance of deadlines to discuss possible opportunities.

You can also consult LFS Student Services to explore other opportunities, or talk to your TA/instructor in your courses for possible volunteer opportunities that may arise from time to time.

For Non-UBC Students:

Non-UBC students who are interested in research activities with the AWP must generally be eligible for the UBC Go Global Visiting International Research Student (VIRS) program. Please review the FAQ on the VIRS website to ensure eligibility prior to inquiring.
