We congratulate Dr. Lexis Ly on graduating in the spring of 2025 from the Animal Welfare Program!
Lexis joined the UBC Animal Welfare Program in 2019 as a research assistant. She worked with various members of the program before starting her PhD with Dr. Protopopova. Her dissertation focused on the circumstances that lead to owner relinquishment of dogs and cats to animal shelters. Her work suggests that community-based programming that focuses on both human and animal vulnerabilities would support pet retention efforts.
After taking lots of time off to travel, Lexis is excited to continue to support animal shelters and communities with research projects that improve human and animal wellbeing, whether that be in academia or non-profit!
